This is a semi-spoiler. That is to say I am not sure if it's a spoiler because it lacks any importance, but I'm not sure if I'm going to explain it later or not.
Tlaloc used to have scads of tlaloques. Trent recklessly attacked a bunch of angels and the others went to aid him. They were completely out-numbered and Tlaloc had to break them (that is, the last three) out of the fight. During the skirmish, an angel sliced Killian's left eye and left him with a very unpleasant injury. He has to wear goggles all of the time because when light hits his eye, he goes berserk and only Tlaloc can stop him.

Since then Tlaloc has lost some faith in Trent and Trent was branded with the rain tattoo on his neck so that Tlaloc can keep a shorter chain on him.

Typically a servant like this wouldn't defy him but Tlaloc gave them each a little bit of his personality. Trent just happened to get the rambunctious, rabble-rousing asshole trait. Go figure.

I'm unhappy with Firefox's new update. I'm mostly disappointed because after spreading the word of how much better it was than IE it has to go and do this to me. The new version of AdBlocker Plus is just...ridiculous and it doesn't work. Now it's just an embarrassment. If Google wasn't the giant auto-login mega-god of the internet I might consider trying Chrome, but since it likes to sign me into everything because, god forbid, I've checked my email once today, I can't do anything anonymously. Also I hate GMail so I don't know if it can impress me. Browsers are becoming the new phone companies: They are all shit, you just need to figure out what kind of shit you want.

Hey guys. I know that GO FISH is "technically" back and I missed last week's update and I'm probably going to miss this week's update unless something really knocks me out of this funk.

However, I think I may have reached a new point in my life. This isn't going to be a surprise to anyone, I don't believe, but it feels good to come out. Not that I plan to use it as an excuse or a crutch, but it helps me cope and learn.

I may actually have a problem with depression.

There, I said it.

I thought that depression meant being sad all of the time, or having something to really be upset about, or something like that. I figured everything I was feeling and experiencing was normal and that other people were just better at handling it. I thought maybe I just had a hormone issue because these feelings seemed to coincide and increase in severity at a certain time of the month. I figured it was all normal and I was an idiot for not being able to handle it better and THAT was my problem. I know crying at work isn't normal, but it would happen and I'd feel stupid for doing it.

But after speaking with someone I trust, respect and know has the knowledge to make good judgments, I became aware that these feelings I have most of the time (the worthlessness, the irrational embarrassment, thoughts of ending my life, etc) aren't how people go from day to day. "You should be happy most of the time," she said. It sounds good on paper.

And so I plan on getting help. For real this time. I can't imagine what life would be like when feeling so bad is rare, or what liking myself is really like, but I'm excited. I don't know if it will involve medication, and I don't really want it to.

Uhm...I guess in other news, I bought a pink betta...

My speakers are dying and the "music" coming out of it made me rush through this page because I couldn't concentrate. Not the kind of quality I want for the first page of the year.

So we're back. I wish I had the time to do a Monday, Wednesday, Friday update, but since this comic doesn't make any money I'm forced to keep a job that is, literally, killing me every day.

This issue is all about Tlaloc because there's so much I want to say and every comic should have at least one issue dedicated to one of the characters. Typically this is because the author is about to kill them off.

2010 was not unkind to me. It was not particularly fabulous either.

I wanted to wait longer to update this, but I'll be busy all day/night today so I wanted to wish you all a pleasant evening, however you spend it. And be safe!

Sidenote: I'm running a tiny eentsy-weentsy mini contest on facebook right now until January 7th. It was spur of the moment. Since I have 69 fans over there, the idea is to create the sexiest image with GF characters. Winner gets...something. Money or a poster or whatever.

Winter Break Time

This page marks the end of the Issue 13 (obviously) and the beginning of my winter break. I may have originally said that I was coming back January 1st, but I believe I will return in January when I am willing and able. I will hit a lot of ups and downs along the way, usually once a month (GUESS WHEN) and things are not easy to control. Not as easy as I would like them, at least.

During this break I will be doing a lot of things. Art for people, redoing issue 14 for the 6th or 7th time, going to parties, just trying to relax for the holidays. I've knocked out a lot of the stress by getting my family to agree that we won't be exchanging presents this year because we're all old and broke (except me).

I may be dyeing my hair black for the hell of it, too. We'll see.

If you were wondering where I am, what I'm doing and what's going on, well here is your answer:

As I've posted in a few places, I am currently re-writing GO FISH and BLOOD. GF is a bit more difficult to re-write, as it is over 400 pages long and about as simple as an Escher painting (not to say it's good, just difficult...). BLOOD is not so bad, because it has just begun, but it's another project.

I've also been trying to prepare myself for the New York Comic Con, which is this weekend, and I'm about as ready for it as...something that...isn't...ready for things. See? I can't even be creative anymore!

I have business cards I plan on handing out and I am going to schmooze with artists and famous people, hopefully. Mostly I just want to meet DJY1991 and the author behind TJ and Amal. And buy a ton of comics. COMICS.

The sad thing is that I forgot to revamp and buff up this website before the con. That means anyone who actually DOES check out the site might be completely turned off, foiling my plans of fame and world domination. NOOOO! Aw well. Best to get them used to my lackluster update schedule, right?

Light was so hard to work with here. It's a dark room, but the page is dark and dark dark dark DARK! So just pretend there is a light source and move on, awright? Also, Tlaloc's eyes glow.

IMPORTANT
I'm taking a short break to figure out the future of GF. I know I've said I was going to do it before, but I really haven't. I just planned out more of the same. This is more a technical future-planning thing. I'm writing out GF in its entirety with some revisions.

Speaking of revisions, after a brief but insightful conversation with someone on deviantART, I've decided that portions of GF that seriously piss me off are going to be redone. This could mean a page, a scene or an entire chapter. This is going to be a long, labor-intensive project that I can and will not put a date on. I feel as though it will save me the fear of hating my comic as well as take care of potholes I've left in the story.

When new pages/scenes/chapters are uploaded, I will notify you here and on facebook, if you follow me there, and you may go re-read that part. Otherwise, you may get lost or wonder why suddenly something hasn't happened (yes, GF is THAT bad...).

If this comic was a child, I'd be sending it off to school and hoping that it was going to grow up to be a good person. Not famous or important, but happy with its life and decent to others.

Of course, being the third child, GO FISH is going to be a spoiled brat.

Five years, guys. That's insane. I never planned for GF to make it past issue 2. But I'm currently plugging away at issue 13 and painfully agonizing over issue 14 and already thinking of issue 15. CRAZY.

There have been a lot of ups and downs...mostly downs. GO FISH was started because I was pissed off by the reaction people had towards my failed comic PET. It failed because of my own idiocy and ego-stroking. I had too many characters with too much background that was never explained. I thought "fine, I'll make a comic with as few characters as possible and no background" and dropped a couple humanoids onto some lined paper. Roger was originally blond and his first name was WAY too embarrassing to reveal before I am famous and dead. Baxter has remained the same, but I was going to give that stupid feather on his hat some symbolism, but y'know, fuck it.

And it was a hit.

I showed it at Johnson State College, the Visual Arts Center, the tiny double-wide-sized gallery/studio/classroom and asked for feedback on this very day five years ago (Jesus, I am old). The response was great and I was shocked. I was a little afraid, too. Now I had to make a story. Immediately I worked out the end and set out to meet it.

But things happened. My friends and people and influences and education happened. Plot holes had to be filled with as much shit as I could find in my head. Roger mentioned a guy named Alex = BAM, his ONLY friend in the whole universe, Alex, is born. Originally meant to be straight and kind of a "dude, no way, dude" sort of guy, Alex was given the last name Sleeper (the Vermont state police commissioner at the time with an awesome last name) and was never gay in my mind until I accidentally started pouring feminism into him to pull it off Roger (you can actually pinpoint the moment he turns gay if you pay attention).

I made up my own gods for a while, but Art History proved too much for me and I was introduced, via Professor Mary Martin, to Tlaloc. A sad rain god who had had his wife stolen from him and sat around drinking rain and moping with lepers. A few character models later and Tlaloc was in GF, ready to steal the show. Now Alex was really gay = my Gary Stu. Fuck.

And so it went. I started with two characters, no background, little story and today I have (I have to count, hold on...) eight characters and COUNTING (there are a couple more additions...sorry). This is like a bad anime now (except worse). They all have their own problems and backgrounds; some I plan on visiting and others I do not.

I think GF will be coming to a close within a few issues. I am becoming afraid of my comic, my characters, this story, and I think the sooner I end it the sooner I can take what I've learned from this project and apply it to others. I'll be sad to see it go. It's been a ton of fun. Luckily, after graduation my updates have had a hell of a rocky schedule (from every day to three times a week to weekends to not at all to once a week, etc...) and it will probably extend GF's life into the next millennium. Hopefully by this time my art will look better and my storytelling abilities will have improved.

But there's one thing I find odd. After FIVE YEARS, only one person has ever asked:
"What is Roger's last name?"

Maybe we'll find out some day.

I love you, appreciate you and respect you, the reader, for being so patient and staying by my side. I draw because I love it, but I update and share my work because I love you. GAY!

The shading style on this page is lazy and quick, but it was fun and it got finished so you know...shut up and stuff.

I am in love with the Scott Pilgrim movie, by the way. I just caught the last showing of it in my area (less than two weeks?! wtf) and it's only the second movie I've ever seen more than once in a theater. I am now going to purchase the books.

I am sworn to secrecy by the ETS people but I have this feeling, which may just be my brain hurting so bad, that schools are going to laugh at my scores.

I'm waiting for the essay grade but I'm pretty sure I failed that hard, too.

Buh-WHA?!

So I got down. I got REAL down. I felt like this was THE down; the down people hit when they find themselves at the crossroads of Do and Die. Maybe it was and maybe it wasn't. I can't say that it's beyond me or that I'm even remotely near a finite destiny.

The point is I picked up my mouse and said "Fuck it" and made a page. How long has it been?! Too long.

Keep in mind the quality issues are my own fault, not Lulu's. The original pages were all saved in 72 dpi (ARGH) and I wasn't about to go back and redo all 112 pages. It's expensive so don't feel like you need an excuse to NOT buy it. I totally understand.

Seriously, I waited almost two weeks for this stupid image to appear. I wish I was joking.

Oh, I published GF volume one in my spare time. It's expensive, it has the old art and I can't do anything about it, but my proof will show up soon and if I deem it close to being worth the cost, I'll let it go public, but, frankly, I don't blame you if you don't buy it.

Other things I've been doing: swimming, sun-burning, finding new comics (The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal and Godseeker), thinking about drawings I want to do and/or sketching them, watching dumb-ass Garry's Mod and Half Life videos on YouTube aaaaand eating and hating my job. I also finally got a book I've waited two plus years for (Glee!) and played some Sims2.

It's enjoyable. I'm going to poke the website and try to get the cobwebs out and then get to work on REALLY reworking some stuff in GF and time management. Maybe one day I'll go to a Con. I live in a shitty area for cons, lemme tell ya.

BREAK TIME

In case you haven't heard the word, I am going on break. I am breaking myself from my art and story writing to find some peace of mind. No Roger, no Baxter, no Tlaloc raping Alex - NADA.

No wait come back! This does not mean "I'm dropping GF, fuck y'all" as I have always said I'd never ever leave you without an ending. Do you see an ending anywhere in sight?

That is exactly the reason I am taking a break. While you, the reader, may not see it, I am working my brain full-tilt 24/7 trying to write, plan, draw and update a comic I make no profit on. I've lost sleep over ideas and ruined nights out to come home and doodle something. My job is killing me as it is; I don't need what used to be an enjoyment turning me inside out.

So I'm dropping the cards and saying "fuck this shit" but only as a "for now". I may only need a weekend to recuperate, but I may need longer. Coming back won't be easy but I want it to be natural. I want GF to be something I WANT to do again as opposed to something I push myself to do and feel guilty when I fail.

I refuse to feel guilt. It's a comic. It's something I used to love and have turned into a monster. With approaching return to school I simply can't have something like this.

Despite being "closed until further notice" I am still taking contest submissions...if you have any.

I'd like to thank the people who have tirelessly waited anxiously for updates, prodded me along and even outright bitchslapped me into doing more pages. But I need a break. When I can love my characters again and stop talking to them about lotions and baskets while they sit in a well, I will return.

Felt Like Updating

It's 3am, do you know where I am not?

I wanted to post an update of some sort. I haven't been working on the next page. I was busy this past weekend and I've been feeling hammered on all week at work (hammered ON, I wish I was hammered...). But tomorrow is my Friday and I'm hoping I'm in the clear for some alone time with my computer on actual-Thursday.

It's so ridiculous. When I'm busy, all I want is to be left alone to figure things out. The second I DO get a chunk of time to myself for anything, I fucking blow it on Fiesta, the Sims, facebook or just stupid random drawings like this one. I don't know what I want anymore. A trip to Mexico, three bottles of tequila and some sunlight, maybe...

I am using a big hunk of time to work on Issue 14, which is yet unnamed and unfinished. This is...so unheard of that I don't even know how to handle it. Issues 1 through 13 were planned, placed and run as effortlessly (shut up, I meant mentally) as blinking. Now I find myself going "Shit, what happens next? Oh God that's my job!" and panicking. I really don't know WHAT happens at this point. I've got scenes, events and an end for GF, but no story. Some hurdles have been leapt, others are tripping me up and the rest are tied to my ankle and smashing everything in my wake. MADNESS. But I could drop the ending on GF at the snap of my fingers which has always comforted me in case of emergencies. Not to say I will, but it's there. Oh it's there.

If you've got any words of wisdom or inspiration, try me, but I can't guarantee they'll be effective. If you really want to help, find me some more of this tequila I got in Mexico that I cannot locate in the World Wide Web.

Sorry, no, I am not on hiatus. I just wanted to give you some information because you deserve that much.

My attempts to finish the next page have been thwarted, mostly, by my computer crashing a lot more than usual. Hopefully I haven't lost too much information because I worked REALLY FREAKING HARD on the first panel alone. Also, I'm thinking about changing some aspects of it.

In other big news, I am planning on going to grad school to get a Masters in Library Science. That's right, people, I am going to be a librarian. If you knew me, you'd know I was basically built to be one. I'm looking into the online universities because I can't quit my job right now. Yeah, that means that working on my comic may be a little more difficult than usual, but in the end it would mean an awesome job where I am surrounded by books all the time and can stop smelling so bad at the end of the night.

The updates will continue when they can. I am still plugging away when I am able. Or willing. Creativity can be a bitch like that.

Hey all.

Yes, this site has been bare, hasn't it?

Despite the lack of comics pages, I have been busily plugging away at art "things". Working on Blood occasionally, still obsessing over the Tlaloc image, doing stuff with blood and fire...y'know how it goes.

I haven't gotten around to the comic yet. One panel on one page is almost done. You can see it if you want, but there's not much more to SEE. If you want to keep track of where my brain keeps going, you can click the "ART" button at the top of the website.

Also, you should all be angry with me instead of being so damned supportive! Start kicking my ass, yo. I want to start up another contest but there's no point in doing that until I actually have a comic, is there?

After two months of feeling empty and being terrified I might have some awful illness, I actually feel like and desire to work on my comics! This is a wonderful feeling!

Granted it hit me while I was at work, but still...

I had been pecking away at an image of Tlaloc for a couple of days, nothing serious, but I was at work and suddenly I NEEDED to art. Unfortunately, they don't want me drawing there so I had to sneak a tiny piss-poor sketch (that I threw out anyway) while trying to stay out of sight. Now I am home, updating this, checking my email and dashing back downstairs to do more drawing.

Nothing breathtaking is going to come from this, but it's something. And I love it. I feel like the switch has suddenly come back on.

HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART:

I was telling someone that if I ever felt like drawing again that I would do a buffer of GF so I could do some updates and they asked a very, very important question: Why?

Seriously, why AM I killing myself and forcing myself into slumps of failure just to update a page that's half done or half assed?

So from now on, GF is a randomly updated comic. It works for Maggot Boy, Zebra Girl and Mokepon, it can work for GO FISH.

This, hopefully, will assure completed pages that are 100% to my approval, sans shame.

It feels really great to be in love again. Thanks for sticking with me, guys, I hope to not disappoint you!

I was hoping to get back into my work before the end of the year. This is becoming annoying. I tried to explain it to my dad, who seemed to understand, and fell into tears. It's heartbreaking coming to terms with this...dysfunction? that I have. I am making it a point to make an appointment with a doctor next week. It's a busy time of year, but I want to come back. I miss you guys and your comments on my facebook make me weepy.

I'm also back online, if you hadn't noticed.

Hey all. No I'm not ready yet.

But I am going to be out of internet for a while. The internet in this state is laughable when it comes to hooking it up and keeping it. Also, I'll need to get Verizon off my computer and who knows if that's implanted some "you can't have any other ISP! BWAHAHAHAAA" software or not.

It could be one day (which means all these updates are stupid and pointless) or a month (which means there will be a newspaper article about me).

Anyway, things haven't changed. I'm still burned out or whatever. I haven't gone to see anyone though I want to. I want to do a lot of things.

I guess the reason I haven't been updating is that I just don't feel it anymore. This isn't my ever-other-week emptiness (thanks for pointing that out, Doodles), no, this is something much more hollow and cold. I think about my art very rarely nowadays. I pick up a sketch pad and put it down after two minutes.

But I'm not unhappy. I'm not depressed or moody or PMSing; there's just NOTHING INSIDE OF ME. It's like every bit of art NEVER HAPPENED.

GF's future has two options: 1) I somehow get an artgasm and get back into loving my work and desiring to do it and finding some meaning in this shell of an existence or 2) my heart and mind finally accept that my art has and never will get me beyond a grade school dream and I become another faceless cog in the world with sixteen years of failure on my back. In that case, at least I've got plenty to burn, right?

Yes, that means BLOOD is on hold and even my not-even-started Secret Wars project on deviantART are all meaningless piles of paper and fail taking up my bedroom closet and floor.

Hell, best case scenerio is I give my brain a break from this guilt I have to update, my stress goes away, my jaw clenching ceases and I can sleep more fully. Maybe if I stop worrying about it, I can actually do it. But that's best case.

Let it play out.

I am having a very drab Halloween. Vermont Octobers are typically cold and, occasionally, snowy; but it's just been raining the whole time and my pumpkin with a joyful expression fucking MELTED. There was a party this weekend hosted by the sweetest guy in the universe and fate decided to take his mother a week before his favorite holiday (my sincerest condolences and sympathy goes to you, Dan, I love you). I ate all my Reeces cups and am too worried about the price hike the night before Halloween to go buy more. Oh, and I'm uninspired and on the rag.

I forgot today was Tuesday for the most part because I took Sunday off from work. BUT I am working on a super-special Halloween update so the bad news is I will not be updating between now and Halloween. Yes, I'll go back and finish Hina Ika's outfit and Baxter's vest (because I obviously forgot to color them), but I am trying to focus on this one image. It will be posted on my deviantART page (click the ART link above). You can find a preview of the things to come there now.

This year all of my characters will be dressing up as other webcomic characters. See if you can pick them all out! A day after I posted that sob-story of a speech, I began to feel better. I don't know why yet. I am still seeking therapy. But today was one of the few days I felt creative and able. I HAVE updated but ComicGenesis is constipated.

The page is NOT done, but it will be. I was trying to finish it around 3am and by 4am I start to see things so I just wanted to show you guys I had SOMETHING.

I will explain because it's worth visiting.

I am currently dealing with some serious life changes. Not like...getting married or having a kid or anything like that (obviously), but big for me.

I think I may actually have some kind of...need for medication. I don't want to/can't say I'm depressed because I know I am capable of feeling happy. I am very very certain I have anxiety problems. And lately, these feelings have become so overwhelming that I have had no desire to draw, ney, think about art. It doesn't even matter to me right now. And that thought makes me bawl my eyes out because it's not like I have anything else.

So I am seeking professional help. I am going to find a therapist or consider finding someone who can prescribe me something. This may sound old hat and small to some people, considering most of the nation is raised taking some kind of pill, but I've always been against medication. I thought it was more rewarding to overcome mental obstacles.

But if I can no longer find enjoyment in my art or my life, I think I can open my hand out.

Please understand and be patient. And pray that I find things worth doing again.

Hi. Me again.
If you're reading this, it's probably because I haven't updated. This is becoming a trend, isn't it? This week's reason -I mean, flavor - is that I'm down, I'm frustrated and stressed and I'm on the rag (hahaha boys don't read this so what do I care?) so everything is very, very low in interest other than sleeping. I pretty much have to force myself to eat and wake up and put on pants, let alone think about GF and Blood.

This will pass. It always does. Until I get paid to do this, there's no point in killing myself over it (not to say I'm not grateful for the $50 donation from Eric Hazel).

Also, I'm moving back to the laundromat to do Blood because the train station tables are cold and will be gone when it starts to snow. And hopefully, so will the construction and FUCKING TOURISTS, JESUS CHRIST, GET OUT OF MY STATE, ASSHOLES...

I realize yesterday's post was labeled "Sunday" but I meant "Saturday".

Anyway, I realize this page and the comic look different on other people's computers. My recommendations are 1) make your browers as wide as possible or 2) stop using IE. Actually that should be an AND stop using IE...

If you are experiencing viewing issues, please let me know so I can make a note of the issues people run into.

This page is way too green on this screen. WTF.

Yes, extended weekends spent outside, celebrating my birthday and enjoying the company of people I see maybe once a year isn't the best way to get anything done. Other than to make myself really happy, of course.

Well, my birthday and GF's birthday are gone by again. Sigh. The next update will be up when it's done which will probably be Tuesday. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday and it was a good day! I am very very sleepy right now and, due to visitors and people forgetting to bring gifts, my birthday has been extended.

REMINDER: No update Friday. It's my birthday.

Today's page: Soooo I was playing the Sims2 and realized "holy crap, I haven't finished that next page, where did my buffer go?" so that's why it looks so rushed. The next page isn't started despite it being one of my favorite in this issue. There is no guarantee it will be up next Tuesday seeing as it will be a very busy weekend. But I'll try.

So here it is. Another hiatus. Are you surprised? Hasn't my failure just become something to expect?

I'm taking the time needed to make a lot of pages. How many? I don't know. How long? I don't know. Originally it was just going to be this week but after I got home from work last night I just wanted to fill the bathtub with ice and write FREE KIDNEYS on me.

BTW, I don't have a job where I get to sit in an air conditioned room where people don't frustrate me and my work is "take it or leave it".

Let's just say I'm going the route of Zebra Girl.

Stay or go, either way there's not much you can get out of this comic.

EDIT: Imagine my surprise to see the page already up when I got out of the shower. Don't imagine me in the shower. So there it is. Incomplete and half-done. I can't even give you a decent reimbursement on Friday because I'm going on a vacation to Maine with my family.

This month/time of year is the nicest in Vermont as the heat lays off, the humidity backs off a little and the days are beautiful. When you live in Vermont, you know what I mean. You want to go OUT. I'm still seriously trying to find out who donated $50 to GF because it's making me nervous. Having not received a DIME in the past year through the donation button and considering people are hard-up for cash 98% of the time (unless one needs booze or cigarettes), I have to wonder if it's legitimate.

Today's Page: This page breaks a lot of personal rules. Mostly like...how it's actually mid-afternoon/evening-ish and there is light POURING in to make Tlaloc really sexy. Also, I'm considering crisping up my brush in Photoshop to see what kind of edge I can make. Anyway, Tlaloc in sweatpants is a crime.
